This 45-minute Google Meet online call is your opportunity to tell me about your current book or writing project. Together, we'll figure out what kind of editing help you need.

Optionally, I can do a short live edit for a small, initial portion of your text as part of our chat. This will help us both to gauge whether my editing style and your authorial voice work together effectively.

This is the optimal choice for any author looking for an editor for their project. If you're a returning client, the call is still a great way for you to get some free input for your new project.

The consultation is not for in-depth, conceptual writing advice. If you'd like help for a book you are planning or struggling to write, opt for a

Book therapy - CAD $40

This 60-minute Google Meet online call is a coaching session for you and I to tackle the writing difficulties you are facing.

Is this you?

• you're struggling to pull together all your story's themes and concepts

• you have a great story idea but don't exactly know what happens in the start, middle, or end

• you don't know how to progress your character or narrative

It's normal! Writing is hard and every writer, at one time or another, finds it impossible to get the wonderful ideas they are imagining transferred onto the page.

Together, we can narrow down the concepts or messages you want to explore with your narrative, create a structural outline for your story, or find a way forward for that character you wrote into a corner.

Manuscript review - CAD $35/hr

Also known as an editorial assessment or manuscript evaluation, this review is a way for you to get a detailed overview of your completed manuscript.

After a full read-through of your text, you will receive a detailed editorial letter via email. This letter will go over the big picture elements of your storytelling, what worked and did not work well, and will use examples from your manuscript to illustrate.

The storytelling elements addressed may include narrative structure, plot logic and pacing, character/information development, and overall clarity of writing. The editorial letter will also contain advice on how to improve or solve identified narrative issues.

This assessment does not include in-line comments or edits made directly on the manuscript document. For a chapter by chapter edit with in-depth comments, consider a structural edit.

Structural edit - CAD $35/hr

Also called a developmental or substantive edit, a structural edit addresses the organization, flow, and clarity of your narrative. It looks at chapter structure, how and when you introduce plot points, characters, concepts, and arguments, and transitions between chapters. It will also consider what's missing.

You'll receive feedback about consistency in tone and writing style across the narrative as well as how effectively you are serving the intended reader's experience.

As part of the structural edit, you'll be sent an editorial letter, an edited manuscript with chapter-based comments, and, if applicable, an outline of the recommended restructuring of your narrative.

Note that this edit will not correct punctuation, grammar, or sentence-level errors.

Full book edit - CAD $35/hr

This is a complete edit of your writing project which includes:

• Manuscript review

• Structural edit

• Line edit

• Light copy edit

Together, these will polish your story enough to self-publish or present to a literary agent.

A manuscript review and structural edit will address any big picture, foundational narrative arc issues in your storytelling.

A line edit, also called a stylistic edit, will improve sentence structure, awkward wordage, and redundancy by rewriting and rephrasing sentences. A light copy edit will correct punctuation and grammatical errors across your text.

Authenticity read - CAD $30/hr

If you want to be sure that your story depicts a certain culture, community, or identity (that you have no direct familiarity with) in an accurate and authentic way, then an authenticity read is for you.

Also known as sensitivity reading or diversity editing, this service can highlight for you instances where a character or topic in your story is portrayed through unconscious biases or problematic stereotypes.

Some subjects I can assess authenticity for:

• female experience and misogyny

• Indian, South Asian, and Southeast Asian cultures

• human psychology and mental illnesses

• childhood trauma affecting adulthood

• third culture kid (TCK) experience

• immigrant and immigration experience

• Christian religion

Non-book formats

As the way we consume stories continues to evolve, the formats and media in which they are created, edited, and distributed will evolve too.

From interactive choice-based narratives to exciting new game world-building and episodic podcasts, all stories need to be edited to ensure effective structure and audience satisfaction.
